Water is considered "hard" when it contains significant levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium. These minerals lead to the formation of scale and decrease the effectiveness of soaps and detergents. It is estimated that 85% of American homes have some issues with hard water.

 

Scale is the build-up of minerals from hard water. It is also called lime scale or calcium buildup. Scale is most readily recognized as the hard, white flaky buildup found on shower heads, fixtures and faucet aerators. However, it is also found inside plumbing fixtures, pipes and appliances like water heaters and dish washers.

 

In addition to cosmetic effects, scale can dramatically shorten the life span of appliances and decreases the water flow in plumbing fixtures and pipes.

 

Hard water causes many household problems costing consumers millions of dollars annually in cleaning, maintenance, and replacement of pipes, fixtures, and appliances from scale corrosion and clogging.

 

In addition to limiting their life, scale build-up in hot water heaters decreases their efficiency by requiring more energy to heat the water. Yes. The natural citrus used by nuvoH2O is very eco-friendly and will not harm your septic system or the environment. Further, the nuvoH2O system, unlike traditional salt systems, does not have a brine tank and there is no regeneration cycle that flushes hundreds of gallons of salty waste water into the septic system.

Spotting can be either hard scale or evaporative. Hard scale spots are very difficult to remove. The nuovH2O system prevents hard scale spots. Evaporative spotting occurs anywhere that water with minerals is allowed to evaporate. Because chelation doesn't remove minerals you may find evaporative spots with the nuvoH2O system.

 

If you have not used a softener previously, you will find less spotting on shower doors and in the dishwasher than before and the spots will be much easier to remove. For shower doors, if you had a softener before, you may see more spotting unless you wipe down the shower doors and faucets after use. Generally, although spots left with a salt-type water softener are less visible, they are harder to remove.

Yes. One of the primary goals of the nuvoH2O installation is to decrease the pH of your water to help inhibit scale formation. The most accurate test to see if the nuvoH2O system is working is to measure your water's pH level.

 

Using a traditional hardness test is not always accurate. Although most installations will see a decrease in the grains of hardness (a traditional salt-type softener test), it is important to note that nuvoH2O uses chelation and doesn't remove the minerals from your water, but binds them preventing them from forming scale.

 

Furthermore, chelation also removes existing scale. If your plumbing fixtures and pipes have extensive scale buildup, the dissolved scale is temporally adding minerals to your water. This may be reflected as an increase in a hardness test. This is not an indication that the product isn't working, but is just the opposite; it shows the product is removing scale.

The standard nuvoH2O Cartridge was designed to treat the average family for about 6 months. Actual usage may be less than 6 months for homes with above average water use, but because product effectiveness begins to decrease around six months, the cartridge should be replaced at that time. The High-Performance cartridge will typically be replaced 3 - 4 weeks earlier.
